I have always been a creative person and have explored many artistic avenues, but when my father introduced me to oil painting in 2001, I was hooked. I have a degree in graphic design but I am primarly a self-taught fine artist.I like working with oil paints for their versatility and the bright, rich colours. My brushwork tends to be delicate and I enjoy blending colours to create softness.Painting allows me to connect with my emotions and convey my appreciation for beauty. I love vivid colours and the contrast that appears all around us. I like the bold colours of flowers, the delicate petals held by sturdy, deep green stems, the blues of sky and waterall in the landscape that we see every day. My paintings reflect the varied landscapes of northern and central Ontario.I look for subjects that inspire me to paint, the snapshots of life that speak to my soul. Through my painting I hope to connect with the viewer and to share with them my passion, energy and love of life. BiographyBrenda has a diploma in Graphic Communications from Canadore College in North Bay. She has spent time doing layout and design for newspaper and printing companies and now provides design and website services to small businesses and non-profit organizations. In 2000 she discovered her talent for painting as she spent time at her father's North of Superior Studio in Murillo. During her instruction at the studio she completed her first oil landscape and since then has expanded her subject matter to include floral still life and portaits. Her paintings are in private collections throughout Ontario and she was honoured to be the 2003 Featured Artist of the Year for Ducks Unlimited Bobcaygeon Chapter.
My motivation as an artist is driven by the desire to make the best of this life. In doing so, I create paintings which are inspired by literary, social, political and environmental sources. As well, my own valuable life experiences are important as they pertain to human dynamics. While creating paintings, I strive to bring out a form of expression that directly communicates what I want to say. I use rich brushwork to define the features of nature, still life, architecture and people in a lavish rendering of oil or acrylic, colours, light and shadow.'Impasto' technique is employed to build up paint and colour on a warm under painting creating a surface with depth, expression and energy. Coloured shadows of trees fall across the canvas as I play with the forest light: filtered, broken, irregular to bestow a kind of radiant surreality upon objects. Ideally my paintings will have an impact, not just on the viewer's eyes, but on their entire body.BiographyBruce commenced studies in art at the Ontario College of Art and Design in Toronto. Later he continued studies at Lakehead University in Thunder Bay where he graduated in 1998 with the Degree of Honours Bachelor of Fine Arts.Currently, Bruce specializes in creating both oil and acrylic paintings. His works of art are based on touch and affection for the natural and physical world. Immersed in the world of art at his home and studio at 186 Algoma St. N., Suite 316, Thunder Bay, Bruce works from drawings, notes, photos, memory and feelings. This location inspires him to capture the beauty of scenery that seems to wear in one's consciousness better than any other element in life. Still life and architecture also illuminate on Bruce's canvases destined for publicand private collections.
